Hi and welcome to “life in a matrix“, thanks for stopping by!

I set this blog up to work alongside my corporate Global Integration site and the Speed Lead site for my book so that I could get more of a two-way discussion going with people interested in how to get things done in a matrix (or other very complex) organization structure.

I plan to share my thinking as it develops from my work with clients, travel around the world and my reading.

I would love to hear your experiences, thoughts and questions about living and working in complex companies.

I would particularly like to hear from anyone who has implemented any of the tools from our training or from my book Speed Lead.

I will also test out new ideas that will go into my next book so if you share a story or question you may help shape the content.

Finally we are producing a series of cartoons so I will get the most amusing or stupid matrix stories drawn up and post them on this site – submit your ideas and see them brought to life”!

I travel a lot so I cannot promise an instant response but I will reply to comments as soon as I can. To contact me urgently please go through my office

Ambiguity is, I agree, an inevitable consequence of the matrix and is probably the thing that de-motivates our people most. I think one of the important things to do is to work out who to network with to spread understanding around the organization to try to get as much alignment as possible otherwise we are putting our people in an intolerable situation.

Great blog. Reminds me of a saying we used to have in sales when I was a youngster:

“Not all our sales meetings are a waste of time. Some of them are cancelled”.

Not good enough to replace any of your cartoons – but entertaining anyway! Keep up the good work!
